Welcome! In my work as a psychotherapist I integrate a number of psychological theories in an effort to help adults create meaningful lives. My primary perspectives are interpersonal and affect focused. I assume that 1) access to one’s primary emotions and 2) mutually fulfilling relationships are crucial to psychological health. First I believe that our relationships with other people are central to our quality of life. Therefore, I am likely to explore your current and past interpersonal patterns in order to help increase your choices in your future relationships. Additionally, I believe one’s primary emotions provide a vital force to motivations, values, and life goals. Clarifying one’s emotions and facilitating adaptive expression of them is likely to be a focus of therapy with me. I view the psychotherapy process as a creative collaboration in which we are both called to participate with compassion, imagination, and honesty.
I received my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1997 from Miami University of Ohio. I interned and was a post-doctoral fellow at the Seattle VA Hospital (VA Puget Sound Health Care System--Seattle Division). In my early training I focused on treatment of addictions and post-traumatic stress disorder. I have worked in private practice since 1999. I am a licensed psychologist in the state of Washington which means I have attended an accredited training program and have passed the national written examination and the oral examination given by the Washington State Examining Board of Psychology.
If you are interested in working with me call my work number, 206-650-4504 and leave me a message. Please include your name, a phone number at which I can reach you, and good times to call you. We will set up a short phone appointment (usually 10 to 15 min) during which we will discuss your needs and any questions you might have for me. If after talking we both agree I am likely to be helpful to you, we will set up an intake appointment.
NOTE: Depending on the status of the coronavirus pandemic and CDC guidelines, I am offering HIPAA compliant videoconferencing services.
